Run strong to go long.

A fast runner can be fast at all distances. But a runner who just runs long, slow distance is only going to be able to run long, slowly.

I've always felt that "running strong to go long" was a valid approach to training; a recent trip to Copper Canyon in Mexico reinforced my conviction. > Read the full story Not only did I have the chance to run with and be humbled by some very talented Tarahumara Indian runners, I got to see how the youngsters train: they play the same running games as their elders, only over 10 kilometers, rather than 100 kilometers, or more. Of course endurance is important, but so too are strength, economy, efficiency, and power. First things first: hills and speedwork, with a focus on rapid footstrike and core conditioning provides the base upon which endurance can best be built; my approach develops biomechanical efficiency first to carry you through longer runs with less effort, wear and tear.

By developing run-specific strength and power, you will improve your maximum speed and, in effect, create a "new speed" at which you can run as your "raw" ability actually improves.
 
My pledge and goal is to help you improve by providing the tools that will make you better—faster than you ever thought possible. I can help you cultivate speed, endurance, power and strength. All you need to supply is the intrinsic desire and drive to improve—the motivation to compete at a higher level.

  • self-administered testing protocols for determining initial training intensities and adjusting them as you progress
  • individualized workouts for running
  • individualized heart rate training intensities for running workouts
  • running pacing times for track sessions
  • training program and athlete logging system posted in the Training Zone for your ease of use
